SCHEDULE SERVICE
A sewer camera inspection shows exactly what is happening inside your main line before anyone talks about digging. Big Apple Plumbing runs a waterproof camera through your cleanout and down the sewer line, so you can see roots, cracks, sags, grease buildup or a broken joint for yourself.
Westminster homeowners call us for camera inspections when a drain keeps backing up, when they smell sewer gas in the basement, or before they buy a house. We have worked in Westminster since 2014, and we give you a straight answer about what the footage shows and what it does not.
We’re proud to be recognized as 2024 Best Plumbers in Westminster by ThreeBestRated, and with thousands of 5-star reviews, our customers’ satisfaction speaks for itself.

What a Sewer Camera Inspection Finds
Tree roots in the line
Mature trees shade a lot of older Westminster streets, from Harris Park down to the blocks off 72nd Avenue, and those same trees are the most common reason we find a sewer line half blocked. Roots work into joints and small cracks, then keep growing until they catch paper and grease. The camera shows how far in they go and whether the pipe around them is still solid.
Cracked, broken or collapsed pipe
Clay sewer pipe was standard in homes built through the 1970s, and plenty of Westminster houses from that era still run on it. Clay cracks with age and ground movement. Some homes from the 1950s and 1960s also have Orangeburg pipe, a tar paper pipe that softens and flattens over time. A camera tells you which one you have and how much of it is failing.
Bellies and low spots
A belly is a section where the pipe has settled and water sits instead of draining. Waste collects there and causes clogs that come back a few weeks after every cleaning. You cannot see a belly from inside the house, but it is easy to spot on camera.
Grease, scale and things that should not be there
Not every recurring clog means a broken pipe. Sometimes the line is sound and the trouble is grease, scale or something that got flushed. Knowing that up front can save you from paying for a repair you do not need.
When to Book a Camera Inspection in Westminster
- The same drain clogs again a few weeks after it was cleared
- A toilet and a floor drain back up at the same time
- Toilets or drains gurgle when water runs somewhere else in the house
- You smell sewer gas in the basement or yard
- A patch of lawn stays soggy or greener than the rest
- You are buying a home, especially one built before 1980
- You want to know if trenchless sewer repair is an option
If a drain is backed up right now, we clear it first with a cable machine, then run the camera so we are looking at the pipe and not at the clog.
How Our Sewer Camera Inspection Works
1. Find the access point
Most Westminster homes have a sewer cleanout in the basement, crawlspace or yard. We use it to get the camera into the main line without pulling a toilet whenever possible.
2. Run the camera down the line
Our camera travels up to 100 feet through the cleanout, which covers the run from the house to the city connection on most residential lots. We watch the screen the whole way and note the distance to anything that matters.
3. Go over the findings with you
We walk you through what the camera found, where it is and how serious it is. If the line is in good shape, we tell you that too.
4. Talk through your options
If there is damage, we explain your choices, including a spot repair, full sewer line replacement, or trenchless sewer repair when the pipe and the layout allow it. Financing through Wisetack is available for larger sewer repairs.
Buying a Home in Westminster? Scope the Sewer First
A standard home inspection usually stops at the foundation wall. The sewer line from the house to the street belongs to the owner, and replacing it can be one of the most expensive repairs a house ever needs. A camera inspection before closing tells you whether the line is clean, needs a cleaning or needs real work. Buyers in 80031, 80021, 80030 and 80234 use what we find to plan ahead or negotiate with the seller.
Leaking or broken sewer lines can cause extensive damage and health hazards. If you notice issues, don’t delay! Call for emergency plumbing services to repair or replace your sewer line promptly.
Why Westminster Homeowners Call Big Apple Plumbing
Local and family-owned since 2014
Our Westminster office is on Meade Street, and our crews work these neighborhoods every week. We know which areas still have original clay lines and where big trees cause trouble.
Honest diagnostics
We use the camera to find the problem, not to sell a job. You get a clear explanation and a recommendation that matches what the footage shows.
One team from inspection to repair
If your line needs work, the same company that inspected it can handle the repair, from a single damaged section to a full replacement.
Sewer Camera Inspection FAQs
Does a sewer camera inspection require digging?
No. The camera goes in through an existing cleanout, so there is no digging involved in the inspection itself. Digging only comes up if the camera finds damage that needs a traditional repair.
Can you inspect a line that is backed up right now?
We clear the blockage first with a cable machine so the camera has a clear view. Running a camera into standing sewage does not show much, so clearing comes first.
Will the camera tell me if trenchless repair is possible?
Often, yes. The camera shows the pipe material, the condition of the line and where the damage is, which are the main things we look at when deciding whether trenchless sewer repair makes sense for a Westminster home.

New main drain line installed
Jason excavated and installed a new main drain line at this home, replacing the old line from the house out toward the street.
Sewer camera inspection
Jason camera inspected the main sewer line through the cleanout. The pipe was too deteriorated for a clear reading, so the homeowner received the video and an estimate for repair or replacement options.

We used Big Apple Plumbing to do our sewer line replacement and we were very happy with the work that was done. Jason was very quick to respond to our initial request for a 2nd opinion and sewer scope. He talked us through all of our options and patiently answered all of our questions. The actual work to replace the sewer line was completed extremely quickly and with super minimal impact to our yard, which we really appreciated!
Jason is excellent. We urgently needed a new water heater and he was responsive, gave a fair and reasonable quote for the work, and completed everything quickly and efficiently. He also responded to a follow up request and made sure everything eas functioning well and took care of everything. Absolutely recommend big apple for all plumbing needs, this should be your first call!
Another great job from Big Apple. Disraeli was here ahead of schedule and re-plumbed the hack job the previous owners had done on the kitchen sink in no time, finishing ahead of schedule. He was courteous, professional, personable, and didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need. Jason and his team at Big Apple are my go to guys!
Jason with Big Apple Plumbing was able to make it out to our house next day for a main line blockage and helped us clear out the line. He was honest, straightforward, and walked me through every step of the process while I observed him work for over an hour. We’ll definitely be hiring him again for any plumbing needs in the future.
Excellent experience all around! Jason scheduled my appointment which was quick and easy and even had a same-day opening! Gabriel showed up and was incredibly pleasant, kind, and clearly knowledgeable of his craft. He was a genuinely nice person and a pleasure to talk to. He walked me through the entire process and addressed any concerns and questions I had before he began working. He allowed me to watch him work (he offered, and who doesn't want to watch a camera run down some pipes underground?) and filled me in on everything he was seeing and what was or wasn't good (thankfully it was all good). I appreciate the ease and the friendly confident service.
So many adjectives, so little time ... timely, considerate, accommodating, non-condescending, forthright, has integrity, a pleasure to work with ... seems I have a plumber now that I can recommend to others!
